Corse Blanc, Clos Fornelli 2021
Undoubtedly Mediterranean wine from the Bravone river valley on the eastern side of Corsica, less noted for viticulture than the western side. It’s a place that feels French but acts Italian, seeing as it’s much closer to the Italian mainland across the Tyrrhenian Sea than the French mainland. The Robe d’Ange bottling from Josée Vanucci and enologist Manu Gagnepain has some weight in the middle but is nimble and at ease, like a dad with a potbelly mowing the lawn. Green fruit and hyacinth dominate the flavor profile. It has a perfectly seasoned salinity that you might not notice at first but would quickly realize were it absent. A true representation of Mediterranean soul.
