Ric Forman is one of the last winemakers from Napa’s ascendant years in the late 60s and early 70s still making wine today. He was a big part of putting Napa Valley on the map with his work at Sterling, Stony Hill, and Newton, and his own project at the base of Howell Mountain (now run with the assistance of his son Toby) is a snapshot of the style of Napa in those days. It’s not lacking in fruit by any means, but retains a bit more herbaceous and savory qualities than many of its neighbors. Classic, old-school Napa.
