2.26.25 California vs. Oregon Chardonnay - A Blind Tasting

Regular price $150.00 Sale

David vs. Goliath! Underdog vs. the Elephant in the Room! Latitude vs. latitudes! We're hosting the year's biggest blind-tasting battle, a winner-takes-all slugfest to see which state gets crowned Best of the West (Chardonnay)

But seriously: everyone's talking about the quality of Oregon Chardonnay right now. We're picking four of our favorite California producers and four of our favorites from Oregon, and presenting a seated blind tasting of all eight wines, with conversation, debate, discussion, and the big reveal. Great California Chardonnay is made all over the state, in a wide variety of styles. Many of the wines winning hearts and minds in Oregon come from a relatively small area—the Eola-Amity Hills—and from a more cohesive perspective on style.

This blind tasting is as much about discovery as it is taking the wines to the right place. How do some of the titans of CA stand up to Oregon blind? We'll ask everyone to rank their three favorites and guess which state all eight wines come from.

We owe the inspiration for this idea to our good friend (and Chardonnay winemaker) Artie Johnson, who will help lead the discussion and pour his own Le Artishasic Chardonnay to get us warmed up.

Which producers made the cut? You'll taste the following wines blind:

Ceritas "Trout Gulch" 2021 (CA)
Kongsgaard 2021 (CA)
Littorai "B.A. Thieriot" 2021 (CA)
Sandhi "Rinconada" 2022 (CA)
Eyrie Vineyards 2022 (OR)
00 Wines "VGW" 2022 (OR)
Morgen Long "Eola-Amity Hills" 2021 (OR)
Walter Scott "X Novo" 2021 (OR)
