Saumur Blanc, Clotilde Legrand “A L’Ecart” 2019

We can’t stop buying Chenin. It’s a problem, because despite extensive affinity for the grape among wine nerds and shopkeepers, the drinking public at large hasn’t cottoned on to the charms of Chenin, and we bring new examples in quicker than we can sell the old examples. Oh, well. More for us to drink. Clotilde Legrand’s Saumur is a pristine example of why good Chenin is so good- perplexingly aromatic (is that Donburi I smell? Hay? Quince? A Japanese fish market?), pleasantly fruity, and with cleansing acidity. And for the price it’s almost unfair.
