Pošip, Toreta “Special” 2022

Korçula is an idyllic Mediterranean island, filled with wild herbs and pine forests. Soils here are deep red and rich in iron. Blue sky and sea, green foliage, and red earth make the island a mosaic of bright color. Korçula’s signature variety is Pošip, which has made waves on the mainland in recent years but really thrives on its native island. Winemaker Frano Banicević’s entry-level “Special” bottling is emblematic of the environment it’s raised in. You can taste the sunshine in its oozing fruit, the sea in its brisk salinity, the forest in its piney scent. If the picture of a lobster on the front wasn’t enough to influence you, serve this with some Maine-style lobster rolls.
