Pinot Noir, Kelley Fox “Mirabai”, Dundee Hills 2021

From two vineyard sites, Weber and Maresh, next to each other in the Dundee Hills. Kelley Fox was embarking on a PhD in biochemistry when she switched course and picked up winemaking. She worked for David Lett, essentially the founder of the Willamette Valley Pinot industry, and combines her scientific background with passionate intuition in her winemaking. Both vineyard sites are on Jory volcanic soil and Kelley gets own-rooted Pommard clone from each. The wine from it is wild, spicy, seductive, and expressive. It’s probably the most beautifully-hued wine in our shop, too, with a brilliant pink translucence. Pinot is the heartbreak grape but this is a heartwarming wine.
