The Vallée d'Aoste, a sliver of mountainside terrain nestled along Italy's French border, is home to an interesting mix of Swiss, Italian, and French varieties. Fumin, a variety that was nearly driven to extinction in the last century, produces dark-fruited, aromatic red wines with lightness and lift.
