The entirety of the Côte d’Or is defined by its soils composition of clay and limestone, in varying degrees. Fixin, almost the northernmost commune, has a particularly high percentage of clay in its soils, which leads to water retention and sturdy, deep iterations of red Burgundy. Warm conditions in 2018 amplify those facets of this wine, but Jérôme Galeyrand is one of our favorite (relative) newcomers in Burgundy, treating his wines with a deft touch. Assertive and layered, with the majestic aromas of truly great Brugundy.
