Crémant de Savoie, Château de Menjoud "Les Bulles d’Hortense" Extra Brut 2018

Domaine Saint Germain, one of our consistently favorite producers in the Savoie, makes this bottling under the Château de Menjoud label. It’s named after Hortense Mancini, a 17th-century woman who famously turned down both Charles II (King of England) and Louis XIV (King of France) when they asked for her hand in marriage. She liked to holiday at the Château de Menjoud, and thus the wine wine was born. Similar to its namesake, Les Bulles d’Hortense is strong-headed and independent, not quite fitting into stylistic descriptors. It’s creamy and round but also bright and zippy, full of stone fruit flavors but also Turkish spice and Fig Newtons. Made with Jacquère and Chardonnay.
