Champagne, R. Pouillon “Les Blanchiens” Brut Nature 2015 MAG

Roger Pouillon’s grandson Fabrice is doing what so many of the current generation of cool growers in Champagne are- shifting to organics/biodynamics, focusing on individual parcels rather than blends, decreasing dosage. His are some of our favorites, though. They are pristine and savory Champagnes that drink like Premier Cru Burgundy with added flesh and complexity. Les Blanchiens is a site in the Premier Cru village of Mareuil-Sur-Aÿ facing fully west. Full exposure to the afternoon sun and actually ripe grapes (an even split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) means no need for dosage here, and the wine doesn’t miss it. And as always, magnums show you love someone.
