In Burgundy, site is everything. So yes, while this label does just read generic Chablis, it’s important to note where Sebastien Christophe sources the fruit. The vines face Grand Cru Blanchots directly, and are immediately west of Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre, often referred to as a baby Grand Cru. Somehow, this little plot wasn’t recognized as worthy of anything more than good ol’ village Chablis. That doesn’t change the quality in the bottle, though. An expressive, savory, flinty style of Chablis, full of verve and precision.
