Chablis 1er Cru, Roland Lavantureux "Fourchaume" 2020
Fourchaume is one of the Premier Cru sites most prone to voluptuousness and flesh in Chablis, given its location bordering the Grand Crus and full south-southwest exposure soaking up the afternoon sun. With the harvest of 2020 being about two weeks earlier than historical norms, it would be fair to assume the wines are plump and flabby compared to their usual selves. Not so. We don’t think we’ve ever tasted a better vintage of Lavantureux Fourchaume. Yes, it’s powerful and textured, but the overall impression is of terse yellow fruit. All the elements are well-integrated and seamless. It’s good now, but will only get better with another 5 years in bottle. Enjoy!
