Cabernet Sauvignon, Stack House, Napa Valley 2018
Anna Monticelli is originally from Poland, but she studied winemaking at UC Davis, where she met her husband Mario. She’s the current winemaker at Piña, while he’s had stints at Quintessa, Lail, and Vineyard 29. They put their impressive resumes together to make wines in both Napa and Italy (and also raise 3 kids).
We’ll be honest, tasting Napa Cabernet Sauvignons that retail for under $50 can be a painful process. There quite simply are very few worthwhile ones. This is undoubtedly the best we’ve had in recent memory, and we did a double take when we saw the price. Many Napa wines at double the price aren’t nearly as complex, balanced, or flavorful as the Stack House. It’s a minty, plump, and juicy style of Cab that is a great introduction to Napa without a typical Napa price.
84% Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Malbec, Merlot, and Cab Franc.
