Of her 150 hectares, only about 10% are planted to vines, and the rest is a mixture of forest, olive trees, and pasturelands. They're in a town called Tavernelle, known to aficionados as being the home of Soldera and also Angelo Gaja's Montalcino project. Basically one big hill, the southwestern slope of Montalcino is its windiest, rockiest in soil, and home to some of the longest-lived wines in the area. We were taken with Quercecchio's 2020 effort, with its sturdy structure, mineral impact and olive and rose-scented aroma. Sangiovese's naturally high acidity provides a backbone for a long life ahead.
