Bourgogne Tonnerre is an appellation that surrounds either side of the Armançon, a tributary of the Yonne that runs through Chablis. Its soils are the Portlandian limestone that also comprise Petit Chablis, and that’s a good comparison for the Dampt Bros’ Chevalier d’Éon. The 2020 drinks like warm-vintage Chablis- ripe and clean with a steadying nuttiness. By the way, the knight of Éon was a native of Tonnerre and worked under Louis XV trying to spread the good word about his hometown wines.
