Albariño, Zarate “Tras da Viña” 2021

To state it quite simply there is no producer of Albariño anywhere in the world making better examples of the wine than Eulogio Pomares of Zarate. This is the peak. Of their single-vineyard wines, El Palomar is the most layered and complex, Balado is the most austere and saline, and Tras da Viña is the most approachable. Planted with cuttings from El Palomar, which was originally planted in the 1850s and is one of the oldest ungrafted vineyards anywhere on the planet, the Tras da Viña is addictively refreshing and explosive in rocky, salty flavor. Can’t be beat.
