Robert Sinskey is a legendary name undergoing a few changes at the moment. In late 2022 Rob and his wife Maria sold their longtime winery in Stag’s Leap, intending to move production to Carneros and eventually opening up a tasting room in downtown Napa a few doors down from us. While all these changes are happening, the wines remain resolutely classic. Usually released with appropriate age, they’re reminders of what Napa used to be, and the 2016 Merlot is no exception. It falls in the welterweight category and offers an herbaceous edge to go along with Merlot’s inherent plumpness.
